Gas Octane, which one??

I just purchased a '79 CJ7 304. Does anyone have a recommendation for octane gas level??

Its as simple as running whatever dosent cause knock and ping. Go as low and as cheap as you can as long as it runs fine. If you try lowtest and get knock&ping then step up to a mid grade and try that. Going above and beyond that is a waste of money IMHO. The only time high octane is a must would be with an engine with a high compression ratio. Generally 11.5:1 or numerically higher is where high test or performance feul is used.

Having a decent hot ignition will help burn low test fuel also. If the wire are old or something else causes the spark to be weak that can cause a knock and ping issue too. Food for thought.
