I just joined you about 1 minute ago. I have a 87 Cherokee and my wife has a 88. Mine has a 5" lift and is broke most of the time but her stocker runs great! Anyhow, great to be here. By the way, anyone know why my auto shifts at 3k even when the pedals to the floor and doen't want to downshift up hills? The motor runs good so count that one out. Thanks in advance, Ward (Trailhead)

What engine/tranny? If it's an AW4 it's electronically controlled, so it sounds like a faulty TCM (transmission control module)...but it could also be a bad valve body.

Sorry for the late reply. It's a 4.0 and I'm thinking it may be a 4 speed auto at the risk of sounding like a stupid head. Haven't had it on the highway but I've noticed it running through what seemed to be four gears. I'll check into the TCM and valve body though to be honest I really don't know what they are just yet. I've never had to work on an automatic before. Right now I'm working on my wifes Jeep. You know, the one I said runs great! It's overheating and I can't figure out why. I replaced the thermostat and tuned it. It's getting a good flush on Monday. Hope that does it. drama
