My 96 5.2 ZJ shifts fine at WOT and normal driving but when I push the pedal "firmly" not flooring it he sometimes hasitates when shifting and goes back from 3rd to second and right back to third gear.So whats wrong with it?
Oh and when going say 40mph and I lift my foot a bit from the pedal he hasitates a bit acting like he's almost out of fuel and is fine as soon as I give it gas or lift my foot of completely. rofl Rolling Eyes

just curious if the TPS replacement solved the problem you describe???
I am having the identical symptoms on my ZJ.
I also have a high idle after my engine is warm. It eventually
comes back down to 750 or so in park but flucutates up to 1800-2000 when I am driving, let off the gas and slow down.
I am wondering if this may be a symptom of TPS as well??

I didn't buy it sons of bitches wanted $180 for it,I'll wait until oktober then I'm coming over the pond for a vacation and I'll buy it then for $55.
I was also told to put some injection cleaner in the tank and have some stuff sprayed inside the the throttle body, they called it "poisening".
As for the shifting issues they said it could be some valve/solenoid in the trans.

interesting.. I was quoted around $74 (US$) from the dealership for the TPS sensor. I haven't decided if I am going to pick it up yet.
Yesterday my rig was running fine... who knows. I guess it couldn't hurt to replace it...I will clean the thorttle body as well.
I have heard a lot of positive things from people that have cleaned their TB and I know mine hasn't been done.
Thanks for the feedback!

Swampy wrote once that you should ask for the TPS for a dodge 5.2l it's cheaper for what ever reason $55 I think.

You can pick one up from the local(if you have one that is) Autozone for ~$30-50. They usually have them in-stock. I do believe the manufacturer is Wells.

UPDATE::
I just wanted to let you guys know that I replaced my TPS as suggested and this fixed my hesitation and surging problem!!! ($34.99 @ autozone)

I bought both the TPS and Crankshaft Position Sensor since the Autozone that is remotely close to my house only had 1 of each in stock.

I installed the TPS, went for a test drive and all symptons of hesitation under light acceleration were gone!!! Thanks for the help!!!

The crankshaft position sensor looks like a PITA to replace...I will tackle that project another day....
