I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee that has an odd sound coming from the front left corner. Its an odd metallic popping sound when the wheel is turned while moving. It was originally thought this was caused by a bad swaybar linkage, and after replacement, the noise didn't go away. Shortly after replacement, the new link snapped. After looking at this, I replaced the swaybar bushings since the bar appeared to be making contact with the bushing mounts. During the install, it seemed as though the linkages were not aligning with the bar, suggesting the bar was bent. Haven't yet changed the bar, but was hoping someone might have run into similar problems and have a suggestion before I replace the whole front end.

my trackbar bracket was loose causing it to smack metal when I turned have someone sit in the jeep and turn the wheel left and right while you look at the front

Everything is tight. We've looked over the system on a lift and while on the ground and we can't see anything that would be making the noise. When you're outside the car, the sound appears to be coming directly from the hub, but everything checks out.there as well However, as I mentioned, the swaybar linkage seems to be misaligned so I'm not sure if that's the problem, or if its something else.

IF the sway bar linkage is missaligned you may need to adjust your track bar .. Look at the steering arm on the passenger side.. When your track bar is not adjusted properly it sometimes causes the steering arm to hit the Track bar mount and stabilizer mount..

If its not that I would put my money on worn bushing somewhere.. Like track bar or Control arm... Jack it up enough to get the wight off the axle and see if you can move any of the control arms or the track bar...

Edit... Oh It doesnt say if you have any lift... Do you??? Cause the trackbar adjustment doesnt come into play unless you have lifted..

IN that case I say bushings ...But still check the clearance on the steering arm and stabilizer... Maybe it got bent some how...
