hi folks, i bought my first jeep in april of this year Very Happy
right now it's a bone stock '93 YJ
-2.5 L
-5 spd
-200 000 kms (125 000 mi)

i have a few problems with this jeep
-suspension is shot all the sh*t
-gutless
-grinds from 2nd to 3rd gear

i am beginning the process of customizing said ride and could use some tips/help.

yesterday i bought a freshly rebuilt chev 305 bored .030 over, front and rear 3/4 ton diffs/axles.

today i bought a 600 cfm holley carb and edelbrock aluminum intake manifold

how am i doing so far?
what tranny should i go with?
how do i tell if i need to replace the springs?

lots more question to come

How mechanically inclined are you? Not sure if you have fuel injection on your current engine, but if you do, you'll probably want to keep it. Look at swapping in maybe an SM420 transmission (not sure how many there are in your area) or a TH350 if you want an auto. You current transmission is probably on it's way out and won't hold up to a V8. Also, you Novak Conversions has an adapter to mate your current t-case to the transmission. Oh yeah, at that mileage, yes your springs are probably starting to sag.

try the one bounce trick. get a corner of your jeep boucing up and down as much as you can, by yourself. The stop and count the number of bounces it does after that. If it bounces one more time after you let go, the springs/shocks are junk
