Hey all!
I'm new to all this( just pick up a rig last Sat.) I'm slowly but surly working out all the bugs, but this one has me confused.
first the rig:
87 XJ
3.5" lift
31" tires
disco's on sway

Problem:
at speed (above 40) while turning slightly right the front whells go into some sort of harmonic that jerks the steering wheel side to side about 1/4"
rapidly. I call it a harmonic because if you jerk the wheel straight it continues for a few seconds then stops. I've had the front up and trashed the wheels around good, but nothing seems to be loose.

any help would be most err... helpful.

Shocked

Sounds like death wobble. I'd start by checking the wheel bearings and make sure all the suspension components (especially the track bar) are torqued properly. Also, how is the alignment?

Death wobble: Check your steering stabalizer, tire pressure, tire balance, trac bar, bushings in the control arms and the alignment.

no stablizer, Tire pressure and balance ok, i'll check the hubs and tie rods. I haven't had it in two days, so something I messed with helped. Anything I sould check regularly other than the usual tire pressure.

My YJ did that when I first got it and it turned out to be a bent wheel in the front. So i just switched it with the spare.

pulled the tie rods (center link) and upgrated the steering stablizer. so far so good. Question of the the day is, What's up with Rusty's track bar? Called several off road shops and they all said the same thing, If you got a Rusty's track bar, your F*cked. Any input from anybody?

That's pretty much right...most of Rusty's stuff sucks, that's why it's so cheap. If I were you I'd get yourself either an RE or a JKS track bar and swap that thing out.
