I have a 03 wrangler with 33/12.5/15, auto trans w/overdrive, inline 6. I'm wanting to change my gear ratio mainly due to poor gas mileage and lack of power. I've had two different shops tell me two different things. One said to go with 4:10's and the other 4:56's. who is right? I do about 50/50 city and highway driving.

4.10s really isn't worth the change from 3.73s. It'll cost about $1000 so you want the most bang for your buck. I would go with the 4.56s for the reason above, but also because the overdrive in the 4-spd auto is pretty high and could use some help with lower gearing.

Not really. 4.56s will get your RPMs a tad bit higher which could decrease your mileage. If you want better mileage, stick with 3.73s and the 33s.

Yeah, It's kind of a double edged sword. You can't have the best of both worlds. If you want the best mileage out of your jeep then leaving it stock would have been the best thing. Underpowered vehicles tend to have better mileage than vehicles with tons of power and larger tires.

Hence a 4 banger stocker w/ p-235 [or p-265] tires and 3.73 gears gets better mileage than a 6cyl jeep lifted 7 inches w/33-35" tires and 4.56 gears.
