I need to replace a sensor for my ac clutch to engage. I found what I think is called the"ac accumulator sensor" and need to figure out how to replace. I unplugged the sensor and put a wire across the plug and the ac started right up.
Does anyone know how to replace this sensor.

Are you sure the sensor's bad? Because if you don't have enough refrigerant in the system, that switch is supposed to keep the compressor from kicking on. I always called that the pressure cut-out switch, because that's what it does. But I don't know the proper name for it.

The system is full. I filled it myself, it was low but when I tried it again after I filled it and it still didn't work. And when we put a wire across the sensor plug it started right up.

I guess it dosen't really matter what we call it if we are looking at the same part. Normally I just ending up calling it: "that damn stupid part." Well that is untill it get fixed.

Well then you're right, you're switch is bad. I like your choice of words. I worked in a parts store for a little over three years and we used to get some of the weirdest explanations of parts. It was actually fun to go to work there. I miss it. As for how to replace it, it should just screw out, but you are probably going to lose almost all of your refrigerant.

Yeah I was afraid that I would loose it all. My dad (yes, I am a college yuppie and he is the first place I go with a problem) said that back in his day they would have to get all the air sucked out of the system when they lost all the refrigerant. Will I have to do this? I still have about probably a bottle and a half of refrigerant left from when I used it last, it would almost be magical if I could just plug it in and go to town.

I couldn't imagine working at a parts store with people trying to describe parts to you. A few years ago I worked at a toy store for christmas. That is when I lost all hope for the general public.
