Steve (a.k.a. Phantum) just posted up a writeup for front-end brake replacement on his '97 XJ, and I took mine in to Merchant's to have them evaluate my squealing problems since Paragon (after I had cleaned off all the mud). I now have to replace both brake pads AND rotors in the front (the rotors are too thin now to be machined), as well as the brake shoes in the rear as they had hairline fractures all around them (the rotors can be remachined). Here are my quotes (w/ labor factored in)...

$169.99 front brakes + $59.99 each for the rotors Shocked

$99.99 for the rear shoes (w/ machining)

$59.99 - Brake bleed pissed

= $507.88 w/ tax minus any coupons they may have left Confused shock

This is a good reason why it should be done by yourself if you can help it. Evil or Very Mad pissed shock

Well, it ended up being less than expected, but still high.

Grand total $430. Confused

Could've been a lot worse. Evil or Very Mad
