I'm working on the above, has 5.2L V8..150K miles.

To be brief, we used the GC for a trip which included 200mi (total) of dirt logging road. The beast ran great .. 70-80 skimming the dirt. Did catch a few mean ruts ..seemed fine. When we got back on pavement, after about 50mi the top end goes away. Has power up to 3K RPM, then falls flat (will spin higher but now power).

There does not appear to be a miss in the engine, it stays real smooth. I suspected fuel starvation ...

Replaced fuel filter ... no change.
Put gauge on fuel rail.
- Idle at 33psi
- pull off regulator vac line = 40psi
- drove with gauge - past 3k, foot is pretty much to floor .. press at 4-psi

Based on above, I think fuel delivery is fine.

Next is ignition ....
- cap/rotor ok, not great
- changed plugs, all appeared to be running rich

So .. where from here? (I'm a GM guy ... not completely familiar with jeep, sure concepts are similar))
- What are spec for coil (ohms)
- Where is crankshaft sensor?
- TPS?

Or worse ... timing chain jump?

What are the "common" fails on these engines?

A second problem is crap idle which was present prior to our trip ... suspect idle control motor ?

It's easy to blame the age/rough road .. but perhaps coincidence ..perhaps not.

Thanks in advance,
John

Problem solved ..... honeycomb broke up, rotated and rattle fit in the outlet.
