Does anyone know exactly where the ignition coil gets it 12 volt power from

Both leads make their way to the PCM but I can't verify where the actual 12 volts comes from

Obviously I have no power to the coil

thank you fousto

I thought that the signal that goes to the coil comes from the CPS (crank position sensor) but I could be wrong..

If you have already changed the CPS and still dont have funtionality at the coil I dont know.

Oh I dont think you will have power at the coil except when you are cranking..I dont think there is power to the coil until the ignition is active...IE recieving input from the CPS.

Are you getting any codes when you do the key thingy??

Ok a little progress

If you plug a light probe in the coil plug and turn on the key it will light for about 3 seconds. When you try to start it then it is not hot.

no codes from the key thingy except 12 which is bat has be disc

Replaced the CPS
now thinking the cam sensor or the PCM

If the cam sensor is bad I should get a error code with the key.

Ok more progress the probe slipped so I had someone help me

as it turns out I do have power to the coil. What I did not realize is that it does not stay on because you turned the key on. When I crank then it lights up.

so I am now I think down to the coil and the camshaft position sensor.

will report back

get yourself a new coil.. They are cheap.. You could also check the coil wire..

Mine layed close to the exhaust.. and I have had to replace it 3 times.. I have since moved my coil to a different location..So that problem is gone...

Worth a try for you..

Ok nightmare over.

Coil wire arced through

What I learned - If you don't have a error code it is probably not a component.

However with 140k miles changing out the crank sen cam sen coil and wires for 150 bucks is probably money well spent.

Actually some very good learning here about how the elect system works

Can;'t wait to get a 2000 or 2001

ciao and thank you very much swamp boy
