I have seen it once online , just a picture of 2 D-clamps installed where the two rubber bumper things are on your front bumper ( right in front of your tow hooks)

And once in a traffic jam but was in my ambulance and couldnt stop and ask the driver how he did it.

How do I install D-clamps on my stock front ( maybe even rear) bumper? I cant afford my dream bumper for a while ( ARB Bull bar) so wanted to at least try do some sort of usefull mod to make my jeep look less stock.

Nope didnt find it in my haynes manual I checked Razz

I'm sure he means d-rings. I don't think it would safe to put d rings on the stock bumper, it's not a very stout bumper. Just go with tow hooks that mount on top of your bumper and into your frame. You'll pull the four bolts out on top of your bumper and replace them with longer bolts. If your bumper has the shorter version bolts like mine did, (usually jeeps with the factory tow hooks came with the longer bolt) then you can replace them with grade 8 bolts.

You mean something like this?

As was said before, they'd tear right through the stock bumber the first time you tried to use them. Normally they're attached to tabs that are welded through aftermarket bumpers. You can see how they're mounted on WhatWasIThinkin's front and rear bumper's. Wink

Even with a backing plate, the stock bumper is not strong enough for any legitimate recovery operations using a D-ring or bolt on shackle mount. Get yourself some 10K lb tow hooks and 1" longer bolts for the front bumper. Bolt them suckers on and call it done.

thanks for the advice, I will be replacing the 4 bolts on my front tow hooks with longer grade 8 bolts soon as I get a chance.

As for the D-rings, its too bad because I liked how they looked, and cant afford new bumpers yet

where can I look this up?

How do I know whats the strength of my towhooks? I sure they are the stock ones that come from the factory

and I have read about people putting older towhooks under the chasis of their jeep for rear tow hooks, Ill look it up and post a link to see what you guys think

The stock hooks are actually rated to 7,000 lbs. If you have stock hooks, you can leave them, they work well. The aftermarket hooks will stick out past the face of the bumper and give you a more aggressive appearance.

Thanks for the advice

I took off the bolts I had on my front tow hooks and installed grade 8 bolts that where a little longer, but going to buy the other style tow hooks, for the front and the back

I like how the D rings look and wanted to install them on my factory bumpers, but instead Ill save the money and buy a rear bumper with the shackle mounts already installed.

again thanks for the help guys
