The last couple of months i have been experiencing the following when starting my Jeep (you need to download the video clip). It doesnt happen all the time but enough to piss me off and worry about what it is.

Download footage, increase your volume and listen carefully. (this isant a trick)

(Right click and save-target-as)

Lately it hasnt been happening as much (weather is getting warmer) but enough to warrent investigation.

Cheers,

What year is your jeep?

We have a 2004 Wrangler X that once in a while, the starter sounds like it has not disengaged from the flywheel after it has started the engine, and the key is released from the start postion.

We did have one starter die all ready. This did happen out on the trail too, so that sucked. Thank goodness, we have the 5 speed, and could push it.

If it is still under warrantee, get jeep to look at it. If not, I think I would carry an extra starter and the tools to change one just about anywhere.

Yeah, mine did the same thing. Before it died I went to Auto Zone, got a rebuilt one, & turned mine in as a core. I now have a starter w/ lifetime warranty should it die again. Very simple swap as well. If not under warranty I'd go to Auto Zone & just get it over with before it leaves you stuck. If under warranty, get'em to swap it for ya.
