I decieded to take it to the dealer and had them fix it. I have an 1,100 mile trip ahead of me this morning and I was running out of time. A $275.00 fix.

Shocked

You realize that's like a $20 part.

ya but when you are also paying their guy some 50 to 60 an hour to work on it it adds up fast.not that i would pay somebody to put in an axle joint but 240 is about right from a dealer.

Changing one side can be done in an hour, especially for a shop that can work faster than your average Joe. Now, I don't know what book rate is for this...but stay away from the dealer if you need repairs. They don't call them the stealer for no good reason.

What is involved?

Take off tire
remove brakes
unbolt bearing/hub
With BFH pull out axle
Using a vice, socket and BFH pound out one side of joint
take off caps and remove joint
install new joint with some grease and do eveything in reverse.

Just to give you a rough idea

I moved from MA to SC and needed to get it done right away. I towed my boat down here with it, and also loaded to the inside roof front to back. I don't remember what the dealer charged me for the part, but the labor was 70 bucks an hour. I usually do all the work on it myself to try to save money, but in this case it's something I just had to do.. Sad I made it down here in about 16 hours of non-stop driving with no problems at all.
