i have a 1996 jeep gc with a v8 that will not start unless i put my foot on the gas pedal the it starts and runs great as long as i keep my foot on the pedal but if i take it off it just dies. i replaced the idle air control motor yestarday and still the same problem i checked the voltage on the tps sensor and at idle i have 0.68v it thru a check engine code of p0505 idle control system malfunction. then i cleared the code and went to start it and it was the same thing no start without pedal action got started and drove it for a few miles keeping it running when stoping then it started running fine and it starts normal i would like to know where to look for the problem to fix it once and for all
thanks Tj

check either your idle air controle valve (motor), or maybe even your battery! had that problem twice and both fixed it (one at a time of course!!!! Smile

This may not help since you have a '96 model, but have you tried to diagnose the engine codes. I just read a post from ThePhantum
called Jeep Computer codes (OBDI & OBDII) over in the drivetrain forum. It tells you how to read the engine codes and functions without a diagnostic tool.

Thats what mine does when my TPS goes bad.. I posted about this in another thread just tonight... IT wont idle on its own until it gets warmed up.. I dont know why.. But Changing the TPS works for me..

Its a real pain in the but when its cold and I need to go somewhere fast.. (Or at least it used to be when I drove it regularly.... rofl )
