Hey, Ive been talking to 1fox2go, and he brought up a unique idea. Would TJ seats be able to fit in a ZJ? The only thing that I can think of that would be a problem is the back height of the seat. I'm not really concerned about just being able to bolt it up because I'm sure if it fits in there, we could fab up some mounts.

Thanks,

Are you thinking of putting in racing-style, fully suspended, five-point harness Tj seats in a ZJ or just regular OE TJ seats? I don't really know why you would want to put factory TJ seats in a ZJ- like you mentioned the height would probably give you blind spots or block your rearward vision. Do you just want to get rid of all of the motors and electrical connections under there? The suspended racing seats (or the mounting brackets) could definitely be modified to fit. It may get tiresome getting in and out of them after awhile and if you have any airbags you should really be careful of the mounting position. But suspended seats with a harness would be worth the time, money, and effort if you are spending a lot of time hitting the trails hard where you may be in the position of ending up on your roof. If I were going to do it I would consult Swampy since he has a PhD in making things fit into a ZJ.

Ok, here's what we would most likely do. I would take the OEM seats out of my TJ and give them to 1fox2go (who owns a ZJ) or sell them cheaply to him because his seats are pretty worn down.

I was then going to go get the Mastercraft seat or a similar one for the TJ with the 5point harnesses...I don't know about the other Wrangler enthusiasts here, but I'd like to keep my kidneys when I get older. (but that's beside the point)

It could prove to be more trouble than it's worth, but I think it's worth a shot. We'd both get good seats out of the deal.

Try putting the ZJ sliders on the TJ seats if they fit .. You are good to go...

I have a set of racing seats in my ZJ and I used my stock rails on them...

The mastercraft suspension seat is what I was thinking of (I couldn't remember the brand)....but I believe that those are the ones that many of the JeepSpeed drivers use in their XJ's. Be careful mounting the harnesses though- remember what happened to Dale Sr. (not that you would hit a concrete barrier wall at over 160 mph).

I'm in college and on a budget as well, so I have to judge cost versus quality as much as the next guy. I was just noting that the mastercraft seats that Steve02Tj mentioned were the ones that I am familiar with and have sat in. However, I am totally unaware of the cost of the mastercraft seats or any brand new aftermarket seat but I bet that a Jeep dealer would charge much more than $300 for a new OE replacement seat anyway. I did have another idea that might work out for you (at zero cost) if you can't get the TJ seats to work. I have a friend that swapped the passenger seat for the driver's seat- the adjustment knobs were then on the wrong side and a little more difficult to get to but they fit with no problems (he had an S-10 Blazer without power seats). Your driving habits might be different, but most vehicles suffer more wear on the driver's side since the majority of the time there is only the driver in the vehicle. However, swapping the seats from side to side would definately seem to be more difficult if they have the power adjustment option. You would also then still be stuck with a worn out seat on the passenger side. Just so you don't misunderstand me- I did not have the intention of trying to tell you what to do, I was just trying to be helpful by giving you some ideas on how to accomplish your goal.

Perfectly understandable thumbs

Actually, now the more I think about it, the more I think they will fit. Also, they fit better when you sit in them, (follow the contours of the human body) and there are no blind spots looking around the shoulders or through the mirrors. Now all I need to do is see if they will bolt up to his ZJ Sliders.

Thanks for all the info!
