hey everyone im new to this site and thats because i cant find anywhere else a good site to talk about this kinda stuff, ok to get to the point, i wanna buy a grand cherokee in feb and i will mostly be doing city driving (to and from work) but i will also be going to the desert (octillo wells, glamis) pulling a trailer with the toys but i wanna kno which motor should i look for in the grand cherokee for towing and for 4x4ing, i am planning on lifting the GC 4"s all in due time, but please help me out. should i get the grand cherokee in a v6 or v8 and also with most of the v8's i find on the net they most have just AWD or 4LO i want 2WD-4HI-4LO no all wheel drive shit just more gas money when not 4wheeling. alright help me out please it will be much appreciated

Get the V8 and do a 249-->242 tcase swap to get 2wd-4wd-4lo.

I haven't done the switch myself yet but from what I read it seems pretty easy. If you get a tcase that is within a year or two of your jeep. _________________ '94 Grand 5.2L

I'm getting ready to do the switch this week. Do a forum search for 242 and you'll see all kinds of threads. _________________ 2008 JK X

V8 > I6 period.
I think my 4.7L gets better MPG than my buddies 4.0L. _________________ 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited

You can also swap in a 231 transfercase from a dodge truck with a 5.2 (assuming you get a 5.2) Its stronger than the Jeep 231 and you might get lucky and not have to do the input swap.. (find the right year and Tranny combo.)
Good luck. If you need any help post up.. Some of these guys know some stuff about grands... _________________ BONE STOCK

ive been looking at jeeps, and usually they do as long as their 4x4, but i would go with the v8 not the inline 6, more power and the v8 limited ive found usually comes with just 4full time and 4lo so i was planning on just doing a 249-242 transfer case swap so i can have 2WD-4HI-4part time- 4Lo |
