I'm wanting to change the oil in both my diffs. I have a 98 TJ SE, since its an se I beleive I have the 35 in the rear right? Ok, question is how much oil will they hold? Never changed diff oil before and have to idea how much to buy. My hanes manual doesnt say, just says 75/90w. Also, I was looking at mobil1 synthetic. It has friction modifiers in it already. I dont have a limited slip. What I'm asking is will this hurt my gears? While I'm at it, what kind of oil do ya'll reccommend/use? Thanks guys.

if you have a limited slip then you must have friction modifier added. if you don't have a limited slip then you can skip the friction modifier...but it it's added already it's gonna be fine. i think that if you pick up 4 quarts you'll have plenty to do both axles. i'll check my fsm and get back to you.

the front axle in your jeep takes 2.5 pints - your rear axle takes 3.5 pints.

i used mobil 1 for a while. i switched to amsoil when i build my new axles.

you do need to find out the if you have limited slip or not and get the additive from the dealership. most of the additives that they sell in parts stores around here specificially say that it's not for jeep limited slips. it's only $10 anyways, so why take a chance. get it from the dealer.

I DON'T have a limited slip, thats what I'm saying. Since I don't, will the added modifier hurt the gears?

Lucas Oil Additive!

This is good to add your gear boxes or motor
they also have a fuel additive
also have a "snot thick" (LOL) steering fluid

I have been using these Lucas fluids for years, hell they can't hurt, but more than likely do help
