I recently bought a 1995 GC Laredo. I bought it from the original owner and told me he never used the keyless entry. It is not equipped with an alarm. He did not have the fob, so I bought one on E-Bay. I have followed the programming directions to the letter, and when I get to the end the locks never cycle like they are supposed to. Also, when I first brought the Jeep home the driver side lock, electric mirror and speaker did not work. I checked the wires that go to the door and there were 7 wires that had broken. I repaired them all, but I'm wondering if that has something to do with the programming not working because you have to slide the manual lock to the lock position. I'm at a loss on this one, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is not what you are looking for, but....

I have worked on auto-electrics for 10+ years, primarily in highend aftermarket audio/video/security installation.

The wores breaking in the door jam is extremely common in the jeeps. Assuming all of the wires are repaired (soldered I hop), then no, this should not be contributing to the problem.

Also...the factory remote keyless entry is about as useful as handrill to an armless man. The range is extremely poor.

For less than $100-%150 you can get an nice aftermarket keyless entry or an alarm with keyless entry or for a little more you can get a remote starter with keyless entry.

The difference...
Aftermarket units have much much much better range, more features and can be serviced easier, cheaper and my most any aftermaket auto accessory shop. Plus you can get added features like an alarm, or a remote start.

Just some input.

Josh

Thanks for the reply, but this is going to be my work car. I really don't want to alot of money into (if any at all). I guess I can live with just using the key.

**UPDATE**
The transmitter I bought on E-Bay was defective. I bought another one and it works perfectly. Thanks for all the help.
