Hey guys, new here but not new to Jeeps. I have owned 2 Xj's and am trying to sell the 2nd one. I just bought a CJ7 in a bunch of pieces but complete except for motor. I got it for $200 and have a 302 to put in it. I will have plenty of questions throught the rebuild, but the first one is this. I need help finding out what I have. It is a Ford 5 speed and I THINK it has a Dana 300 hooked on the back of it. Here is a picture, can anyone tell me what it is, and is it worth keeping?

My plans are to get it put together and running first and formost, but in the long run i hope to have it decently strong from the motor, back. I want a 4 speed with granny low and a NP 205. Any ideas on axles? I thought about getting a Ford 9" cut to width, but is there something else out there that will go right in? Also, what about the front end?

Thanks, you are right. And after reading about it, I definently need to get rid of it. They sugested a SM465 or SM420. What do you guys think?

The SM465 is about an inch and a half longer, but will likely be easier to find than the SM420 since they were used more recently. However, looking through the Advance Adapters catalog and Novak, I'm not seeing anything to mate the 302 to either of those transmissions.

well a t18 or t19 will mate to the 302. And then I can use a NP205 that i have. But then i've got to find a different front end. What do I use there?

If ya got a Ford engine, why not a NP435? Granny low (6.68:1), and will bolt to your bellhousing. IIRC there were some Broncos built with Dana trans cases that should about make it a bolt-up. I'm sure the Novak site can provide a wealth of info on this.

Yes, that would work. And I would love to go with it, except for the $500 adapter plate between then tranny and transfer case. Is there ANY decent, complete bolt up that i can do, using a Ford small block and a Dana 300? This has really got me in a bind and i want to start trying to figure out what to look for.

Or is there a setup that you guys are using that you feel is worth it? I have to keep the Dana 300, everything else is negotiable.
