I noticed two smole holes, approx. 1/4", about 2 or 3 inches apart on the top of the axle housing. What, if anything, are they, or are they supposed to be?

i just rebuild 2 of my axles, and the only thing that i can think of that matches your describtions is a little bracket that screws into the 2 holes you mentioned. the bracket it supposed to secure the brakeline in place.

does it have the brakes on it, and do you see a braket anywhere on the axle tube that is holding the brakeline??? if not, then that's probably it.

Yeah, that sounds right. Someone else said the same thing to me lastnight.
I'm gonna look for one at one of the local pick 'n pulls, or just put some bolts into the holes to seal it up.
Next, it's off to get the diff oil changed.

Thx for our help.
