I posted this on another forum a few weeks ago. I'm reposting, because I am freezing my &*%#'s off these days, & really would like the help.

I have a 97 tj & the situation is -

A few weeks ago:

My blower motor will start up in any switch position, but it immediately starts to drag & slow down. Within 5 minutes, it's not doing anything. I replaced the resistor last month, so that it would work at all, but that's all I've done.

I've just been freezing on the way to or from anywhere.

Current Situation:

Now, the fan won't start at all.

I replaced the relay, checked the connections of the switch, but haven't gotten a good look at the blower motor connection. and I'm not sure that the switch isn't bad, but I'm wondering if it's possible to "upgrade" the blower motor like you can with a YJ or CJ, to a blazer blower motor or something?

Does anybody know of an application for another vehicle that might work? If I figure out anything, I'll post up, but I'm curious if someone has a head start on this.

I'm curious about this because I get "dealer pricing" at the local stealership's & they want 160+/- just for the blower motor, and 90+/- for the switch (assembly). I've called all of the places around, & I can get a GREAT deal on an 84 blazer blower motor, (which I've heard is a fantastic upgrade for a YJ), but I've never heard about a TJ upgrade. Maybe I'm the first. If so, I'll post whatever I find out for you guys.

Again any help would be awesome,

Later,

Cliff

I've never heard about a TJ upgrade either. I would recommend just getting the stock stuff if you want heat. No point wasting time trying to find something that will work when you can get the parts you need. The other alternative it to hit up the local salvage yards and see what you can get used.

The main reason that I'm looking for a different application is because I don't have the 130 dollars that I need right now to replace the blower motor. I could eventually come up with the money, & maybe by then I won't need the heater to work until next winter.

BUT, if there is a similar motor that will work with minimal modifications, or that will bolt right in, it might be of interest, not only to me, but possibly several other people. Besides, we all know that the heater ciruit on these TJ's suck because they didn't use a heavy enough gauge wire in the heating circuit in the first place. As you know, that's why we always have to replace the resistor, and if we haven't figured out why the fan isn't working quickly enough, then we also have to replace the switch as well.

I guess it's easy enough to just replace with stock parts, but my mantra is: If it's broke, upgrade it!! That's what I'm trying to do here.

Thanks for the reply,

Buddy
