I am having great difficulty installing a new serpentine belt on my 2001 Grand Cherokee with a straight six 4 liter engine. I got a tool from the parts store, but there is a small hex key socket (or at least it appears to be a hex key socket) on the tensioner which needs to be rotated. The tool I have has no such socket for this. Does anyone know how to do this, or if there is another special tool for the job? Does anyone know what size is that hex key socket - or is it a Torx? Any hints, tips, tricks?

I think what you need is a special allen socket that will attach to a ratchet which I bought one @ discount auto. Sorry Sad couldn't tell you the size... Get a set of allen wrenches to find the size and then match that one to the special socket @ the parts store.

I am soo-o-o stupid. I corralled my neighbor ( a mechanic - and I usually HATE to bother him with such things, but...) For anyone else looking. Disregard the allen wrench thing. Midway between the allen wrench socket and the tensioner wheel (hard to see) is a 1/2" square hole. Put the 1/2" square drive of a serpentine belt tool in there and you got it! (Press DOWN, not up.) Piece of cake. I KNEW it had to be easier than what I was doing!
