my open handle on my rear hatch won't open. anyone else ever had this problem? if so what did you do about it?

the handle wont open?

mine it wouldnt shut, like the latch would be shut and i try to shut it but it would smack the ring on the body


i just took a key and slid the clasp back and it worked

Yepp...
Had the same problem on my ZJ -98.
I had to push the hatch pretty hard towards the car to get the handle to work...otherwise it was acting as if it was locked.

Once I got it open I disassembled the inner linings and adjusted the tension on the handle mechanism, that was rather simple...after that it works fine...

thanks i'll give it a try... i had an 88 xj that had the same problem. i kind of wonder if my subs might have something to do with it...

i got two 12s and i havent had that problem...maybe its a bad latch?

Yup pushing in usually works.. But if it doesnt you are going to have to take the liner off the door.. Inside the door you willl see a little rod pop the plastic clip off and move it tighter that should do you...

how do i get a rusted hatch open, i took the lining off and taken every thing apart, nothing happen has a lot if rust. lubicated everything nothing happen

How long has it been since it was opened?????? Shocked Shocked


If you can make sure the latch is open from the inside.. Then just push with your feet... It should be enough to get it open...
