Scroll down to the section named "No preamp outputs on your receiver?"

does anyone know what wire on the factory deck is the remote wire? This would be the wire that runs to the amp so it only turns on when the radio itself is switched on? Thanks

That would be my guess, easiest way to find out...use a volt meter and see which lead gets 'hot' when you turn on the ignition.

The number #2 wire that you mention is actually the switched 12V+ based off the ignition. It will do what you want it to, but if the radio is off and the car ignition is on, your amp will be on. Most aftermarket head units have a separate remote turn-on lead similar to the power antenna. When the head unit is turned on, it supplies 12V+ to the remote turn-on lead and this will turn on the amp or other switched accessories.

The better one to use would be the power antenna lead if it supplies 12V+ during all types of operation. As noted, some power antenna leads are off during non-radio operations, like playing a CD. You need to get yourself a circuit tester or test light and do some digging around.
