First off: 94 zj, 5.2L, 46RH transmission.

I have a friend that swears that if you change the fluid in your transmission you have a 50 percent chance of the trnasmission failing in the future. Granted he is a ricer man and I only keep him around for comic relief, but is he right? I don't think this seems right. What do you folks think?

Well then I'm getting up there, almost 100k. Another reason I ask, and should have stated earlier, is that I want to put a trans temp gauge in. I figure that I would drain the trans to put the temp gauge in and kill two birds with one stone.

He's right....sort of. If the transmission fluid has never been changed over a long period of time/miles, introducing new fluid (which contains fresh detergents) might...key word "might"...cause problems with the clutches.

The the moral of the story is...change your transmission fluid at normal intervals.

I figured you probably didn't have too but I figured since I'm gonna be working on it I might as well do both at the same time. Just one of those things.
