Like nixt said.. And as it says in my writeup .. The V8 uses a different length input ..When you open the 249 up look at the sun gear and the planetary and make sure its not rusted or pitted.. If its fine use it.. If not make a measurement of your own input length and match that up to the ones in the bone yard til you find one thats the same... (Not as hard as it sounds because while the V8s came with only the long input.. The 4.0's came with both... So they are out there ready for direct bolt in...

And for the record.. If you find one that has an exposed output shaft instead of an open ended housing that the shaft sticks into you can still use it .. there is no difference in the output except that one has an aluminum housing to cover it...

Oh and there are writeups around for 249-231 but like I said.. Its so much simular to the 242 I didnt bother writeing one....
