I RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS 97 TJ 2.5 L IT HAS A STRONG PECK IN THE TOP END . I HAVE REPLACED THE ROCKERS AND THE PUSH RODS AND WAS TOLD THE HEAD WAS JUST RE-DONE WITH NEW LIFTERS. I CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ANY IDEAS? THANKS

What do you mean by peck? Noise? Surging?

it sounds like lifter or rocker arm rattle, worse when under a load

Checked the timing? It could be Pinging from early(or late) detonation.

Sounds like you might have an exhaust leak, TJ'S are famous for exhaust leaks at the manifold. Check to see all the studs are there and none are broken. retorgue the nuts but do NOT over tighten or you will end up with a bigger problem.
