With my old tranny shredded and much metal in the pan I can only assume there is alot of metal throughout. I just purchased my new tranny from Chrysler yesterday. I know I have to blow out all the lines to get them clean. Two questions that I'm unclear on, 1 is my transfer case, do I need to take it apart to clean it?? I hope not but I'm unsure of what to do for that?? The 2nd question is my radiator, do i need to flush the radiator also?? I just want everything to go right so I won't burn up the new one. Thanks is advance for any input on this.

no fluids actually transfer between the tranny and transfer case - so you should be fine to bolt it back up when the new tranny is on. same with the radiator - the cooling lines for the tranny are separated from the engine cooling lines....so unless you see contaminates in the coolant you should be fine with just flushing out the tranny lines going through it. how did the tranny get chewed up?

i bet the lockup band in the torque converter went out, or the check valves got fubar and the tranny overheated

I just noticed that it was making a knocking noise one day, later I was coming home from work and it went out on the interstate. RPM's shot way up and it wouldn't move. I had to keep messing with the gear shift and it finally caught but it makes terrible whining noise.

One more thing what do the chck valves look like?? Are the on the inside of the radiator or elsewhere??

In the hose right before the radiator... Its a ball and a spring..

If you have trouble finding it let me know I will take a picture of the page in the transmission service manual that has it..
