My 97 XJ(4.0) has started making a grinding\scratching noise in the serpantine belt pully system - passenger side where the fan clutch, alternator, ac pully are located. The fan clutch and pullys seem to be turning fine. Is one of pullys or fan clutch shot?

If the alt, harmonic balancer and belt are fine maybe it's the fan clutch. Or possibly the waterpump bearings about to go? I had a similar grinding noise on my wife's '92xj and replaced the waterpump and thermostat. Fine for about a month then same sound or close. That time replaced alt and no probs since. Maybe have a mech look at it. Good luck.
