background: bought a 99 jeep 80k miles blown head gasket

since i got it :
replaced head gasket etc
took out thermostat so it can free flow
and just dropped in a new radiator today

after about 5 mins or so the temp light STILL comes on ...

im lost on what todo next ...
there is no coolant leaking ...
a friend said i could be losing coolant in the trans
he also checked when the system was running and twisted the rad cap off and said its flowing there is pressure so radiator is working
maybe a bad sensor ? but if so why did the head gasket blow before ?

also it has a pretty rough idle ... car kind of shaky

what should i do / look at next ...

thanks im trying to fix it all on my own and not have to pay a shop

Make sure your not leaking anywhere & it is full

Does your electric fan kick in?

Is your water pump pushing water?

get a Chilton or Haynes, find out where all the sensors for the cooling are & check them

you have a sending unit located on the left rear corner of the cylinder test...(while engine is cool)
while the starter motor is running your over heat light should be on, after the engine starts up the light should turn off unless over heating...if the light is not lighting up while starting....
check the fuses....wiring (lose wires, ground, etc).....then replace sensor if needed

Or you can use a ohm meter...specs are in the Chilton 4-24

just take your time & go over every aspec of the cooling system & you will find something!
Good Luck
