Hi guys, looking at an 88 Cherokee Pioneer 2 door. Guy says it's already lifted with a BDS 6" coil in front and AAL in the back. What should I look for in the suspension to make sure the lift was done right. I'm seeing stuff about the SYE, but this is going to be a DD, so I want to make sure everything is right.

Also, what does the Pioneer package include? I haven't found anything that specifically says yet.

Thanks

Shocked You want a DD with a 6" lift!!!!!!!!!

I have a 4.5" lift & it is hard to drive on the road....

Sounds like the Jeep is more for the trails

Depending on how the Jeep was lifted will determine how well it will drive on the road.

I see alot of peeps take alot of short cuts & the cheap route.

I would be VERY careful buying something with such an extreme lift for a daily driver.

Need alot more info for someone to be able to tell you if the lift is decent or not.

You need to look at stuff like....

brake lines
upper & lower arms
pitman arm
steering components in front end (adjustable track bar?)
SYE
are there shims in the rear end?
Sway bar disconnects? ( I would want them front & rear)
does the steering box have extra support?
what kind of gears/ lockers
shocks
what condition are the rear leafs? (i have seen them crack, easy fix though)

Some options I have on my 89-90 Jeep
towing package
Trans Cooler
power/comfort switch on dash (changes shift points)
mine came with a part time 4 high (replaced transfer case)

Good Luck hope this helps a little

A 6" AAL huh? That's all I need to see....stay away from it.

6" of lift on a DD can be done...if it's done right. I'm working on that now actually. Wink

I have my doubts about the 6" part, but I haven't seen it in person yet.

Here's a pic (best I've got for now)

He says those are 31's BTW

Thanks for the input guys, I'd welcome anything else you might think of.

Looks like a factory lower control arm there from the pic....

cheap lift....if it is.... Confused

Looks pretty stock, but cannot tell for sure...

Trimmed fender wells

I would guess this is a $500 Jeep

That's a big ol' coil spacer in the front! 2, possibly 3 inches.

Yup...it bigger than a 2" spacer and that is a factory LCA. That looks like 3" of lift...tops.

From what I can tell it has no front bumper on it either. Plus, maybe it's just the angle of the pic or it's parked on un-level ground, but something is weird with the stance of the Jeep...it looks almost like the pass side rear tire is flat. It's just not sitting right.

The rear looks like it MIGHT have 2" shackles. Couple that with a 3" AAL and you STILL don't get 6", and not even 5". If that really is the case the factory leaf packs will warp badly pretty fast (assuming they're not Up-Country), and your "6in. of lift" will disappear pretty fast. If the coils are BDS's, they probably are 3", but like the leaf packs above, adding 2.5" - 3" spacers to 'em won't make them 6". At MOST they'll settle down to about 3" - 3.5".

Case in point: I'm running a Skyjacker 3" with Superlift 3" leaf packs. I just put on 2" shackles in the rear and ACOS's in the front (Adjustable Coil-Over Spacers), and I'm STILL netting about 4" tops. The shackles are to offset weight droop in the back due to a rear bumper/tire carrier and gas skid, and the ACOS's are to offset a front bumper and winch coming soon.

Thanks for all the replies gents, I think I'm going to look elsewhere, this one just seems a little too iffy. Since I'm new, I didn't mention that he said the rear was SOA. I just figured that Cherokees came SOA from the factory. So that accounts for some of the lift.

Thanks again for all the help!
