My 97 XJ has run perfectly until now. Out of the blue, starts up, but has absolutely no idle. Wil run if i give it gas, but as soon as you let off, RPMS drop straight to 0 and it dies, no stuttering even. I have to run to class now, gonna try to get codes while im down at campus again. Any ideas thouygh, IAC? thanks,

UPDATE:
Got back down to campus, pulled the codes. All was normal, ran from 111111 to 9999999, but as soon as that was done it just flashed the CEL once, then went right back to my regular odometer reading. !!!??? I tryed starting again, took an extra second to crank, but runs fine when you hold the gas at any position, i even brought it down and held it right at idle RPM, runs fine, but let off and it just drops dead. It drove fine an hour before that. Maybe a cable all of the sudden got loose or something, TPS? With no codes I don;t know where to start... ???

usually get high rev idle when the tps goes bad, I'd take a look at the idle stepper motor, on the left of the throttle body as you look from the front

thanks, Il check it out when I get back down there again, looked in there for any loose connections, so I assume I'm just gonna have to try replacing the idle stepper motor? Thanks

UPDATE: Took out the IAC and cleaned it really well, put it back in. Started up, idled like 2k for a sec, lowered down to normal. Pretty much runs alright, but now CEL is on, tryed to retreieve codes, not a single code. How can the CEL be on and no codes????
