I have a strange noise/vibration on my Jeep. When slowing from 50+ but only at a certain rpm I hear a fast clunk... clunk...clunk until the rpm's go up a bit or it's below 30mph. During this time there is a slight vibration. It sounds like it's in the rear half and if you put it in neutral it stops. I also notice sometimes when braking below 10mph I hear a similiar noise much slower until stopped or releasing the brakes. I'm not sure if the noises are the same issue. The only thing I've done to it is replace the sagging leaf springs that I got from a local company. It has the Chryco rear end and the u-joints are all tight. Any thoughts?

Based on the description, my first guess would be a rear u-joint. They might seem tight with no stress on them, but you said put new rear springs in it. Since the old ones were sagged, the u-joint(s) are now operating at slightly different angles than previously. That could be enough to cause the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I jacked up the rear of the Jeep via the axle yesterday afternoon and spun everything. I noticed no noises and it was smooth. U-joints are cheap, maybe I'll replace the ones in the rear driveshaft. It seems most parts are cheap on these, a co-worker of mine had the brakes replaced on his Maxima... $800 Shocked ouch

That's what sucks about imports. Sure, the car may be cheap to buy, but wait until you have to replace parts on it... $$$$$$
