I have a 90 yj and I think it has a 2 1/2 spring lift , its got 32s on it. I was considering raising it 2 more inches by 1 inch shackle lifts [ home made shackles ] and 1 inch body lift. I know this may be a crappy way to do the lift , but I hate to trash the springs and fork out 500.00 bucks when I can do the same for around a 100.00 . please give me all your opinions . I will be driving the jeep on the road alot now that summer is here in alabama and tell me if shackles are a bad thing. also my rims are 8 inches now and I was thinking about going with 10s . is this possible with and without the lift. My current tires do not rub anywhere ... thanks

HOw wide are the tires? Don't want to be popping beads all the time if the wheels are too wide.

with 32" tires i would keep the 8" wheels. i would go to 10" once you hit 33X12.5.

if it doesn't have a body lift on it now, then 1" won't hurt anything and isn't all that bad. and the shackles shouldn't hurt you any.

but unless you have good welding and fabricating skills, i would recommend buying the shackles. they're not that expensive.

actually had a buddy at work fabricate them for me and they are thicker than stock . I feel pretty good about the shackles , and as for the body lift , I see where some kits come with relocating your radiator even on a one inch body lift, and will this put me at the point of needing to extend brake lines and use a new pitman arm? I believe my tires are 32 11.50s . what does popping beads mean? new to the jeep world. I like the idea of having wider tires and rims { 10 inch rims } but is it bad on the size tires I have now? is it possible?

poping a bead of the rim. mean the tire basically came of the rim. it happens on real heavy sideload and other offroad situations.

you want your wheel to be thinner than the tire, so it has a good grip on it. i would keep the wheel tire combo you have right now.

i'm running 12.5" wide tires on 10" wide rims, but that's as wide a rim as you want to run with that setup for example. i was originally going to run them on 8" rims, but got a good deal on these wheels.

since you already have 2 1/2" of lift and are going another 2 inches, there is a chance that you might have to adjust your steering, but i'm not 100% sure with the setup you're running. maybe somebody else can chime in on that.

for your radiator, just find out what the other lift kits do, and then just make something yourself. it's most likely just some kind of spacer, but i'm not sure since i haven't looked at any body lifts in a long time.

thanks for the info . I may stay with the same tires and rims , still undesided because of the bad gas mileage that I already get with the present ones ,I dont really want to make it any worse
