I recently came across a rear Dana 44 with disk brakes donated by a (I'm guessing) '04 Grand Cherokee that'd I'd like to install into my '03 Wrangler/TJ that is running on a Dana 35 with drum brakes.

The first big problem I've noticed is the 5x5" bold pattern on the D44 (5x4" on the TJ). Can the rotor/hub assembly be swapped out for a 5x4" unit? ...do you know of any articles covering the fabrication steps to complete this conversion?

Thanks!

Rob

Tj also has different spring perches and control arm mounts..

It would be just as easy to do an 8.8

It's 5x4.5" on the Wrangler.

The D44 is likely aluminum, which makes it no more desirable then the D35 you have now and has even less aftermarket support. Get yourself a TJ 44 or an Explorer 8.8 and do the swap right the time.

I thought the TJ was 5x4" and the 07 was 5x4.5". Opps... better get out my tape. Embarassed

Welding up new linkage is not a problem. My basic concern is around the bolt pattern and hooking up with the drive shaft. An aluminum D44 isn't my first choice... but its really hard to pass up f.r.e.e. :-D

Thanks
