My brother is wanting to do a 4.5" lift on a 2001. I was thinking he needed new lines. What do you all think?

In the area of brakes yeah, just longer lines for the 4.5in. If he is also going to 4.5in will need the Slip Yoke Eliminator and longer driveshaft to accomodate the new angles.

By NO means a lift expert but:
Ditto what srb96bravo said!

Last thing you want trying to limit your new droop after a lift is your Brake Lines!

I did a 4.5" RE Lift (with new longer Brake Lines) and found out the hard way (I was STUPID and believed some advice from online that maybe SYE wouldn't be needed!) that I did too need an SYE!

Sucks to find out after a two day lift install that you can't drive it yet! I missed taking it on a trail ride because I hadn't properly done my homework. Entirely my own fault!

Plan it out ahead of time! Have to order SYE, install it, and then measure required length for new drive shaft!

WOW Shocked
Yal had problems after a 4.5" lift & had to install a SYE!!!!!!
So funny, I have had a 4.5" lift that actually lifted my rear 5+ inches....
I have never installed a SYE! Cool

I replaced the U-joint once, I do get mild vibration, but nothing bad....
I have had this Jeep for like 5 years....LOL

Although I will be getting a SYE this summer

Phase two comming soon!

YEp. It was OBVIOUS that something was WAY wrong!

I backed out of garage the 2nd night after a LONG two day lift install!

It sounded like Fred Flintstone mobile! CLUNK, CLUNK, CLUNK.

Every time Drive shaft rotated it bound right at forward-most end of rear driveshaft (Xfer -case end); then CLUINK it rotated rotated.

After the Hack & Tap SYE install and new Driveshaft, it worked like a champ.

I wonder if the Rear axle makes much difference? Noticed you have the 44 and I have Chrysler 8.25?

I wouldn't swear it wasn't partially because of my old U Joints but I had NO issues with them before lift?

Lucky for me I'm at 5" with no SYE and going strong. I will be doing one this summer too. Also a good brake line idea use the ones of a wrangler, that's what I did & it's great on flex Mr. Green
