If I gun it from a stop, or from under 30 MPH the transmission makes a terrible squealing noise on the 1-2 shift and occasionally on the 2-3 shift if I'm still standing on it. Anything wrong, or anything I can do to correct it? It only happens if I gun it, and it shifts near or at redline. It also happens if I step on it at a lower speed and it downshifts, then squeals on the upshift.. What is the deal here?

No one's ever heard any noises when their Jeep is shifting? That's amazing, seeing as they are Chryslers.

I take it you've checked the fluid level and to make sure it's not burned up. Changed the filter? Any debris in the fluid? And are you saying that the 1->2 shift is taking place at redline? Is it slipping at all? Have you adjusted the bands?

None of the above, because the damn manual doesn't assist me at all. Under transmission fluid, it says I must take it to a Mopar dealership and have it checked by a professional. A lot of f*cking help the manual is.

I'm reluctant to have the dealership look at it, because it's basically $100 just for pulling in the lot. Then the labor and parts/material. UGH.

Okay, first thing, find the dipstick for the transmission and check the fluid level. While you have it out, smell it to see if smells burned and check the color of the fluid. Is it red, brown or black?
