I've got a 92 YJ and and am new to jeepin'. Naturally, my first concern is recovery. Does anyone have suggestions for an inexpensive way to mount a solid tow point on the rear of a YJ? I really would like to avoid buying a class III hitch ( my jeep came with a 1" receiver) or new bumper. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Greenhorn Jeeper

Hm....ONly option I can think of is to buy a tow hook and mount it directly to the frame. I have seen a write up somewhere on the interweb but can't seem to find it now.

Try buying a TJ rear tow hook like this one--> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JEEP-WRANGLER-TJ-REAR-TOW-HOOK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33653QQitemZ8066242028QQrdZ1

I'll keep looking

*edit* it would look something like this

Yeah, tow hook thru the frame is what I've been considering. Eventually I'd like to mount a carrier/bumper, but I'm a cheap and not to mention poor SOB, pinching pennies to put on a lift, YSE, etc. The current reciever on there is only a class I hitch, rated at 2200 pounds. Granted, it obviously ties into the frame rails, but it is only one bolt on each side, and I don't trust the receiver @ 1 1/4" to endure alot of tugging stress.

It should have two bolts per side, and unless you are burried tub deep in mud or rock will work fine.

Im not saying that a tow hook is a bad idea but if its there use it. after all it is designed for TOWING
