I have a '96 Cherokee Sport 4WD with about 97500 miles on it. It runs great, but has 2 really annoying & noisy problems that my mechanic hasn't been able to figure out yet.

1) A chirping sound when driving. The sound seems to be coming from the passenger wheels. It gets louder when I drive over a bridger or past parked cars, so the sound is obviously getting reflected back. Also, the sound stops when the brakes are applied, even lightly.

2) Occasionally there will be a load squeal when I apply the brakes. It doesn't matter if it's lightly or heavily. It actually sounds like it's coming from directly under the car, as opposed to from where the tires are. My mechanic has checked the brakes (pads/rotors/etc) inside-out & upside-down but can't find anything. Naturally, he's never heard the squeal, either. It's an intermittent thing.

I do have ABS, if that makes a difference.

Also, I was in an accident about 9 years ago. Driver's-side corner to driver's-side corner. I had to have my driver's side corner panel replaced along with the hood. Could this be coming back to haunt me?

Thanks!
Mike

Any help

Thanks for the tip! I had read some of the older posts about the "angry sparrows" and wasn't sure it was the same since no one mentioned the noise stopping when the brakes are applied. I'll definitely mention it to my mechanic when I take it in this weekend.

Thanks again!
Mike
