sorry - i hate being the noob and asking this sort of stuff...but what is the bare minimum amount of lift to run 31" AT tires on an XJ??? i'm not using stock wheels so backspacing isn't an issue...but just want to keep from rubbing too bad when turning and/or loaded in the back. this XJ is a street-jeep so never sees anything more rigorous than the speedbumps at ACME.
thanks!
chris

If you're stock suspension is not that sagged and you're not afaid to whack the fenders a little and you pick the right backspacing and put some washers in the steering stops, you should be able to get away with a budget boost over 31"x10" tires for street use only.

that is sort of what i was hoping to hear. not sure of my springs conditions though....i swapped in '94 leaf springs this winter as my original's were sagging badly.

the thing is that i sort of fell into ($200 for everything) a garvin rack for the roof, hella lights/brackets for the roof rack, new OEM control arms, new 31" BFG AT's, and a set of A/R wheels that they are mounted/balanced on. i thought that i could sort of throw it all together onto our '87 for as cheap as possible to sort of toughen it up some. no trailing with it as we have both of our tj's for that...but just something that would keep my ego from be crushed everytime i pull out of the driveway in the xj and see our tj's in the rearview mirror.
chris (has issues)
