I recently purchased a 93 YJ and am trying to figure out what needs work. The jeep was lifted by a previous owner and has 33x12.5 tires on it. How can I tell how much lift it has and if other parts were/should be changed? The lift does appear to be spring based. There is no body lift and the shackles appear to be original, other than urethane bushings.

Thanks

I put a 3.5" on my 89YJ to get 33" tires under it and Iím told that this is the minimum for 33" tire so you have a 3.5" minimum.

well... its most likely a 4" since thats what most comanies make. one way to tell if its 3.5 or 4 is by brand, and the main way to figure that out is the shocks (only if they came with the lift and if you can tell what they are) or by the design of a few of the components. i run a 3.5" rough country lift and i have the logos on my shocks and bug deflector to let it be known but beyond that you wouldn't know.

Well it all depends if you just want to know how much lift you have you probably have between 3.5 and four. if wondering what type of lift thats different. when i brought my 93 wrangler the guy said it had a 4 in skyjacker life. i was new to the jeep/ off road community and took it to be true and i wasnt. i soon realizes it only had about 2.5 in. of suspension lift. then he put a 1.5 shackle lift which you can tell by looking at the front shackles and seeing if they look oversized. and finaly he had put on a 1 in. body lift whcih you can tell be examining where the body meets the frame. if you see a gap between the body and frame and overside body mounts you have a body lift.
