Started looking in to an 8.8 conversion for my 02 TJ and I need some advice and some questions answered. First off what is the difference in the 6-cylider rear and the 8-cylinder rear, they both have 31 spline axles and disc brakes, but, the 8 cylinder is about twice the cost.

Second: I am a pretty moderate wheeler, nothing extreme, just a lot of mud and hills. Will an 8.8 be enough axle for 33s or 35s? Any opinions or answer would be GREATLY appreciated! Mr. Green

None that I'm aware of and if there is a difference, it doesn't matter to those swapping them into Wranglers. Look for 95-01 Explorers for rear disc brakes. Not Mustangs, not Rangers, not F-150s...only Explorers.

Yes, it will do great with 33s-35s. The 8.8s have handled 37s well. I had no worries about my 8.8 when I ran 33s and then 35s.
