I just had the head on my 97 XJ reworked (warped cause my cooling system died) and I'm looking for some preventative maintenance that I can do.

Apart from the cooling system (which I've had almost completely replaced) what else is there to check up on so I don't run into major (unexpected) problems down the road?

A 4.0l, right? Just the usual, regular oil changes, keep the cooling system flushed, spark plugs every 30,000 miles, etc. It's a pretty forgiving engine as long as you don't abuse it and keep it maintained.

Wouldn't the head from a '91 to '95 4.0 HO engine increase HP? I thought they had "better" ports...

Engine oil
Transmission fluid
Transfercase Fluid
Front Diff
Rear Diff
Flush and replace your brake fluid
Grease your front suspension
Radiator flush
Spark plugs and wires
Clean your battery cables
Balance/rotate your tires

If you have greaseable zerks on your driveshafts or control arms

Just a few ideas. Mr. Green

Here's what I do:

Every 3K
Change oil & filter
Check battery cables (clean if necessary)
Check serpentine belt, adjust/replace if necessary
Grease front suspension and everything else with a zerk fitting
Rotate tires
Visually inspect brakes and repair/replace as necessary

Every 12K
Change transmission fluid & filter
Change transfercase Fluid
Change front & rear diff fluid
Replace air Filter

Every 24K
Bleed brake fluid (same as a flush and replace)
Radiator flush, new thermostat, inspect hoses & replace if necessary
Spark plugs and wires
Balance tires

Keep in mind, that I wheel mine hard. So some of this is a little excessive, but it should still work as a general guidline.
