My electric fan hasn't worked since I got the Jeep. I unplugged it and ran some wires to the battery, and the fan is fine. I suspected the relay, so I bought a new one. Still nothing even when it's running hot (it gets close to 220 with this Texas heat). Any thoughts?

Does it turn on when the a/c is on?

Not sure...I don't use the a/c for the sake of gas mileage.

Should be a block coolant senser that closes as eng. gets hot to provide power to cooling fan. See if this is working .

Turn the a/c on, it will make the fan go on if everything is working (assuming the a/c works). If the fan fires up then it must be in the sensor area like longfellow said. I'm not sure if 220 is hot enough to make it run.

The electric cooling fan works with the ac primarily. But is also a backup for the cooling system.Running the fan directly to a power source will tell
you if the fan is good. The electric fan is pusher fan for the condenser. As for cooling fan a puller fan is needed.
Depending on the year of the XJ closed cooling system 1987-1990.The switch which controls the fan is in the radiator tank left side. The electric fan should come on 205-210 degrees. No ECU/ECM control here.
1991 and above was moved to the thermostat housing. The electric fan should come on 215-225 degrees. This switch is controled by the ECU/ECM
