Can anyone tell me why the fan would keep running when the motor is not running. The motor was not overheating and it ran for about 2 hours.

I've never had that problem before with my Jeep. However, when my sister and I were in high school she did have that problem with the oldsmobuick that she was driving. I don't remember exactly what the problem was, but it had to do something with the engine control computer. We had to pull the fuse for the fan because the fan wouldn't shut off- otherwise it would run until the battery went dead. Some Jap cars run the fan after you shut off the engine. But they are designed that way and shut off after a short time. Did you pull the fuse? Or did yours shut off by itself or did it run until the battery died?

Check your temp sensor for the electric fan.. If its bad it might do that..

I think the fan is supposed to run for a few minutes after you turn off the engine to cool it down.

The engine actually gets hotter when you turn it off than it was when it was running .. Because the water is not circulating any more..

I will look in my FSM and see if it says anything about it..

My electric radiator fan on my 99 jeep cherokee larado, would not stop running after I shut off the engine. I had to remove the fuse. When I put the fuse back on several hours later, the fan would no turn on anymore. I have checked all of the fuses. Everything is good. I connected the fan direct to the battery and it turned on, eliminating the fan. I could not find the fan relay, I don't think they have one.

Now the fan won't turn on. Could anyone help? Does the computer control the fan? What do I need to change or check?

I found the problem with my electric fan (1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 4x4). The problem was the electric fan relay, located behind the front right headlight. I had to also remove the front bumper, grill and plastic wall that is located behind the front bumper/grill. The relay is a flat square and has a blue sticker on it with numbers.

Apperantly it is a very common problem. Cost $85.00 at the dealer.
