Check the exhaust hangers and make sure they're all present and accounted for. Off the top of my head, there is one next to the gas tank, one in front of the rear axle, and one near the cat (hidden by the crossmember). Also, make sure you don't have any weak spots due to rusted connections or tube.

you might want to make sure that your exhaust is loose where you say it is. Mine was making the same noises over bumps and suck so I got under there and started shaking it. I figured out it was comming from my catalatic converter. All the stuff inside and broken free and was rattling around. I got a new cat back and flowmaster exhaust and hear nothing but a sweet, low rumble... just something to check.

Yep get under your Jeep with the exhaust cold. Shake rattle and roll it. See what clangs and bangs. You'd be surprised. Mr. Green

When ever I hear anything out of the normal I get under the Jeep on a creeper. I grab every suspension part and treat it like Im trying to rip it out. Normally I find it due to a bad bushing or a loose bolt.

Notice how I said cold exhaust. Im the kind of idiot that hears a noise and wants to find it now. Never mind that exhaust is hot enough to melt flesh. rofl
