What is the best grease for lubricating the zerk fittings on tie rod ends, ball joints, etc? I went by the auto parts store and there must of been 10 types of grease. All said for domestic and foreign cars. The auto parts guy said they were all about the same.

I emailed Valvoline with this question. Their technician said the best Valvoline grease for a Wrangler was Valvoline Durablend.

There is a general automotive type of grease at auto parts stores. It doesn't really matter too much.

My personal preference...Mobil1 Synthetic

But more importantly than specific brand is greasing often. This becomes more important if you off road or REEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAALLLLLLLYYYYYY
important if you mudding at any time.

If you get your rig dirty, or submerge the grease points under water ever, its a good idea to grease up soon after.

I use Moble 1 synthetic.
I also regrease everything after every wheeling trip. So, I end up in using about two tubes of grease each year.
When I go out to grease everything, I take a rag to clean off the top of the zerq fitting, so I do not push any of the dirt or old grease left from my last grease job into the joint.

not a fan of the mobil one synth stuff. it breaks down too quickly leaving you with a puddle of red slurry below anything you greased.

I have noticed that to happen with any synth grease Ive tryed, during realy hot spells. Most of the time it wasnt an issue. Have you found any 100% synth that didnt do that? If so what brand was it?

But on the other end of the spectrum, I also see much lower temps than you would and Ive never had the Mobil1 turn into paste on me either. Most grease becomes useless at below 0f.

mobil 1 is the only synth that i've tried...so can't compare it to other versions. the dino ones that i've used though haven't bled in warmer conditions. good point about the temps - mine was in minnesota one winter around -30...but i didn't crawl underneath to check the TRE boots Smile
