clankity clank = bearings? Tie rod end?

eek eek = new bushings/ springs. if low miles could be settling in, or somethin didnt get lubed perhaps.

hey thanks a bunch.. by bearings you mean wheel bearings? both front have been replaced if so. how would i go about testing the tie rod end? it seems i get movement that ought not be there when i pull on the bar in front of my steering stabilizer- i think it is called the stabilizer bar... it is completly locked into place on my ladies jeep but mine wiggles a bit...

thats wat i was hoping with the eek eek sound... i just lifted my jeep it has prolly under a 100 miles oin the new lift so it should be nothing to worry about ...

Not sure your clank/eek is related to your tie rod. Usually with a tie rod problem comes a death wobble. But, to test your tie rod, jack up the front end and wobble the weel side to side by grabbing at 9 and 3. If it wiggles, you probably need a new tie rod end. If that is inconclusive, jack up the entire front end and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you watch the tie rod ends, and the drag-link, and pitman arm for movement. If there's play in any piece of the suspension it could contribute to your problem. If you see movement, but no breakage (since you just lifted) make sure all the bolts are tight. Generally, after you fix something, you should go back over it after 200-300 miles, and then again after a couple months to make sure it's solid.

Not sure that you'll find anything, but while you're under there, check your track bar as well.

What happened on mine was, I was having a serious death wobble when hitting off-set bumps. Found that the driver's tie rod end had broken and the bolt was floating freely in the socket. Had to chisel off the nut to get the end out of the knuckle.

Also, any other symptoms will help to diagnose problem.

I had the same problem. It was the track bar. It is a good bet that the inner tie rod is gone too.

I would suggest having someone cycle the steering wheel right and left from full lock to full lock while you look at the steering components..

Crab the steering rod and wiggle it.. If its loose grease it ... If its still loose replace it..

Most parts on suspension can be tested by just wiggling them..

I would make very sure the track bar is tight .. and also check the control arms ..I used to get alot of crackling when I drove and it ended up being a bad control arm bushing on the drivers side upper..

Control arms should be very tight .. Hardly any motion at all ..

Good luck..

Carl
