Are the front hubs on a 2001 Grand Cherokee w/ select trac 4wd always engaged, or do they electrically disengage when in 2wd?
I have one and I hear a wirring noise from the left front axle, but it doesn't seeem to be a wheel bearing. Any Idea's?

CV joint????

Jack the Jeep up and check the wheel bearings .. Grab tire at 3 and 9 and wiggle it while someone else watches . If there is movement in the unit bearing ....Its bad..

The unitbearings are not selectable. They are always "engaged".

No binding on the cv joint, can't feel or see any play on the bearing or hub. Since the bearing itself is non servicable, I suppose it is the likely culprit and will change it out.. Sad Thanks for the advice....
